DONATIONS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Donate tickets! Most youth in foster care have limited opportunities to take advantage of the cultural and sports events in Portland. Our mentors value the chance to open up the world for them but can’t always afford the price of admission for two. In an effort to keep the mentoring experience no-cost or low-cost for our volunteers we are happy to accept donations of tickets to area sports events, theaters, museums and/or cultural attractions. If you know you have tickets you can’t use consider donating them. Call our Mentor Supervisor at 503-234-8757, x. 25. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent of their actual market value.
Welcome Baskets are a great project for your family, faith community, service club or other organizations. The following suggested items, in a plastic laundry basket, are a very welcome gift to a teen facing his/her first apartment:
-
Household paper products like toilet paper, paper towels, tissues
-
Household cleaning products like laundry soap, liquid dish soap, bathroom cleaners, sponges, toilet brush, etc.
-
Kitchen items including hot pads/mitts, cookwear/bakewear of all types, glassware, dishes, knives, flatware, cooking utensils
-
A set of bath towels
Use your imagination and think back to your first experience in your own space. If you have used furnishings in good condition we suggest you contact the Oregon Community Warehouse, www.oregoncommunitywarehouse.org, or 503-235-8786. Our kids are able to access their services for furniture so it’s another way of contributing to foster teens as they “age out” of foster care.
Cash donations are always welcome. We have an annual gap between our contracted income and actual program budget of about $25,000 so your contributions allow us to keep serving kids in foster care in a very direct way. Checks should be made out to “Powerhouse Mentoring” and mailed to:
